Antique sculpture of Madonna with child in white marble, mid-16th century

Rare sculpture of an antique Madonna in white Carrara marble from the Renaissance period, datable to the mid-16th century, of great artistic quality, unsigned. The two figures are very simple, linear and sketched as this historical period predicted. Virgin Mary's dress is rigid and devoid of movements, the faces are barely visible. Most likely this sculpture was made to be placed in a niche in the wall, therefore visible only from the front. Probably some elements have been lost, you can see a hole in the hand of Mary which originally could have had a cross and on the head there could have been a crown. The sculpture shows signs of the passage of time in the patina of the marble.
