Vintage Lanterns: how to use them in the house and garden

A revolutionary invention that - in the nineteenth century, before electricity replaced it - enriched daily life with the possibility of reading until late at night; an historic change at a time when literacy was beginning to become a reality.

Lanterns

The design of the vintage lanterns was as simple as it was ingenious: a glass to protect the duration of the flame and a tube that allowed the flame itself to be pushed upwards. Even today, these objects are full of charm that, with the right stylistic approach, can enrich any domestic environment - and the garden - with a vintage touch and a romantic flavour. And that's not all: by introducing a basic electrical system inside them, vintage lanterns can be important lighting points for the home, contributing to the light design of all rooms.

In order to harmonize them in the best possible way and insert them in an already existing furniture context, the advice is to mix them with objects with a simple and linear style, but above all modern. They are perfect to be incorporated in environments characterized by industrial style, in which they will stand out at their best. If, on the other hand, you are more inclined to the agreement between furnishing styles - and less to contrasts - they will be a precious element to decorate shabby style environments, perhaps painted white. We particularly recommend them in focal environments such as the living room and the kitchen, but - if you are lucky enough to own one! - they are also very suitable for the garden.

There you can use them as a hanging lamp or place them on a beautiful vintage (or very modern!) table, benefiting from an atmosphere softened by an object full of history and style. Just one note: pay attention to the size. Vintage lanterns can be small or medium size and this should be a parameter to consider before putting them in a room. The risk is that if you select a small size, it may lose its beauty in too large an environment.
