Iconic armchair by the Italian designer duo Afra & Tobia Scarpa. Soriana proposes a model that institutionalizes the image of informal seating where everything has a soft line. Here the mass of material and backrest is supported and contained by a metal framework. Afra (1937-2011) and Tobia (1935-) Scarpa both studied at the Venice Institute of Architecture. Tobia first worked for the Italian glassmaker Venini. Beginning in 1960, the couple opened their own design studio. Their artwork encompasses architecture and everyday objects such as furniture and clothing. Tobia & Afra have designed for many important Italian and international companies.
